Well, regarding my PS in the last message, since INSTALL told me:

These auxiliary programs are
     distributed in the `$GEOMROOT/bin/sgi' directory; if you specify
     this directory for `BINDIR', they are left in that directory.

I decided I could probably type literally
$GEOMROOT/bin/sgi
for the BINDIR question.  I figured $GEOMROOT would already be set by
the time it looked at this.  Unfortunately, the end result was
a directory EOMROOT inside my current directory (which was $GEOMROOT of course).

I tried it again with just "bin/sgi" and "man" to answer those questions
and that worked better.
