Yes, this is a bug, now squashed I think.

You or anyone afflicted by this problem might pick up (in binary mode)
    priv/slevy/gvx.Z
by anonymous FTP from geom.umn.edu, uncompressing it, and replacing the file
    Geomview/bin/sgi/gvx
in your geomview installation with the result.  If you do, please let me
(or rather software@geom.umn.edu) know how it went.  I'll email a source patch
if you're interested.
